Cleaning tips for your Jellycat toys

Why is it important to clean soft toys?

Jellycat soft toys are not only adorable and cuddly, but they also quickly become a child's best friend. Over time, these beloved toys can accumulate dirt, dust, and germs. Regularly cleaning your Jellycat soft toys is recommended to maintain their hygiene and ensure they remain safe for your little one to play with, cuddle and cherish. Read on for some important Jellycat cleaning tips!

What is the best way to clean Jellycat brand soft toys?

Follow these simple steps to clean your Jellycat:

Step 1: Check the sewn in care label

Before cleaning your Jellycat soft toy, always check the sewn-in care label first usually located on the bottom of your stuffed toy). The care label provides specific instructions on how to clean the toy without damaging it. Different Jellycat designs have different recommended care instructions. It may indicate whether the toy is machine washable or if it requires hand washing or surface washing only.

Step 2: Machine washable Jellycat toys

If the care label states that the toy is machine washable, follow these steps:

1. Place the soft toy in a pillowcase or laundry bag to protect it during the wash.

2. Use a gentle cycle and cold water to prevent any damage or shrinkage to the toy.

3. Use a mild, non-toxic detergent that is suitable for delicate fabrics.

4. Once the wash cycle is complete, remove the toy from the pillowcase or laundry bag, re-shape it to its original form and then let it air dry completely before giving back to your child. (Avoid using a clothes dryer as this may cause shrinkage or damage the toy).

5.To help return the fur on your stuffed toy to its former fluffiness, during the drying process it can be gently dried with a hair dryer using little or no heat. (If you let the toy completely dry without using a hair dryer you may find that the fur becomes stiff. Using a hair dryer on a cool setting during the drying process helps to separate and fluff the fur fibers, reducing this stiffness).

Step 3: Hand washable toys

If the care label states that your Jellycat can be hand washed only, follow these steps:

1. Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild, non-toxic detergent.

2. Submerge the soft toy in the soapy water and gently agitate it to loosen any dirt or grime.

3. Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently scrub the toy, paying extra attention to any stained areas.

4. Rinse the toy thoroughly with clean, lukewarm water to remove all traces of detergent.

5. Squeeze out excess water gently without wringing or twisting the toy.

6. Place the toy on a clean towel and reshape it to its original form.

7. Allow the toy to air dry completely before giving it back to your child.

8. To help return the fur on your stuffed toy to its former fluffiness, during the drying process it can be gently dried with a hair dryer using little or no heat. (If you let the toy completely dry without using a hair dryer you may find that the fur becomes stiff. Using a hair dryer on a cool setting during the drying process helps to separate and fluff the fur fibers, reducing this stiffness).

Step 4: Spot cleaning & surface wash only toys

If your Jellycat soft toy has a small stain or spot, you can spot clean it using a mild detergent and a damp cloth. Gently dab the stained area with the damp cloth until the stain is removed. Avoid rubbing vigorously, as it may damage the toy's fabric. Blot with a dry cloth to remove excess moisture and then put the toy aside to completely air dry before giving it back to your child.

Regular maintenance

To keep your Jellycat soft toys clean and fresh, we suggest following these regular maintenance tips:

1. Remove any loose dirt or dust by gently brushing the toy with a soft-bristled brush or using a lint roller.

2. Avoid exposing the toy to direct sunlight for extended periods, as it may cause fading or discoloration.

3. Store the toys in a clean and dry place when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.

Companion for life!

Cleaning your soft toys is a simple process that ensures your child's favorite companions remain clean, safe, and hygienic. By following the care instructions and using the appropriate cleaning methods, you can maintain the longevity and quality of these cherished plush toys, providing your child with a companion for life!
