Cause and Effect Exploration

Rattles help teach little ones cause and effect. Moving a rattle activates a sound, which provides immediate auditory feedback, helping babies to learn that their actions can cause a reaction (in this case sound). Because rattles are easy for little hands to operate, they are one of the first toys that can be given to babies for first cause and effect exploration.

Grasping Reflex Development

As a baby develops, their grasping technique gradually changes. Initially, babies attempt to grasp objects with their whole hand.  Over time they develop the pincer grasp (the ability to grasp something between the thumb and first finger).
