Some Benefits of Baby Rattles
Baby rattles are not just a source of entertainment and distraction for infants. Babies, particularly between the ages to 3 to 24 months, can learn multiple new skills from them.
Cause and Effect Exploration
Rattles help teach little ones cause and effect. Moving a rattle activates a sound, which provides immediate auditory feedback, helping babies to learn that their actions can cause a reaction (in this case sound). Because rattles are easy for little hands to operate, they are one of the first toys that can be given to babies for first cause and effect exploration.
Grasping Reflex Development
As a baby develops, their grasping technique gradually changes. Initially, babies attempt to grasp objects with their whole hand. Over time they develop the pincer grasp (the ability to grasp something between the thumb and first finger). Baby rattles are one of the most comfortable toys to grasp since they are held with the whole hand. Initial grasps of a toy such as a baby rattle offers an important step towards developing more mature grasp patterns. Over time children will use their pincer grasp to pick things up and feed themselves. It also lays the foundation for a good pencil grip when they start pre-school.
Tactile Stimulation
Baby rattles come in a variety of textures, shapes and materials, providing fabulous opportunities for babies to receive tactile stimulation as they explore the rattles with their hands. Many rattles can also be used as teething toys, providing tactile stimulation via the mouth. Teething rattle toys help teach babies about tactile properties, eventually helping them to distinguish touch senses such as rough, smoothy, hot, cold etc.Mika Silicone & Wood Teether - Lion
