Are you looking for a creative and engaging activity to do with your children? Making homemade play dough is not only a fun way to spend time together, but it also allows your little ones to explore their imagination and sensory skills. Plus, it's a great inexpensive alternative to store-bought play dough. In this blog post, we will share with you some exciting recipes for making different types of play dough that your children will love!

1. Classic Play Dough

This classic play dough recipe is cheap to make and requires only a few simple ingredients that you may already have in your pantry:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar *
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1.5 cups boiling water
  • Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
  2. Add the vegetable oil and boiling water. Stir until the mixture forms a dough.
  3. If desired, add a few drops of food coloring and knead the dough until the color is evenly distributed.
  4. Let the dough cool before giving it to your children to play with.
Storage:

Wrap in cling wrap or airtight container and store in the refrigerator. Let is sit at room temperature for half an hour before playing with it again.

TIP:  Cream of tartar helps to give the dough a lovely soft consistency and also acts as a preservative. It can be substituted with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or omitted all together if you do not have it on hand.
