Creating homemade natural glue is not only a great way to engage in creative projects with the kids, but it's also a fabulous alternative to shop bought glue that comes in  worthless plastic containers and may contain chemicals. In this blog post, we share a simple and effective recipe for making natural glue at home!

What ingredients do you need?

To make your own natural glue, you will need just a few basic ingredients that you may  already have in your kitchen pantry. All you need is:

  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of glucose syrup (use corn syrup if you are in the USA)
  • 1 teaspoon of white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of corn flour (use cornstarch if you are in the USA)

How do you make the glue?

Follow these instructions to make your glue in just a few easy steps!

  1. In a small saucepan, mix the water, corn syrup, and vinegar over low heat.
  2. Slowly add the cornstarch while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Use a hand stick blender to improve the consistency if necessary. (You can reduce the amount of corn flour if you prefer a thinner consistency).
  3. Cook the mixture over low heat until it thickens to a glue-like consistency.
  4. Allow the glue to cool before using it for your craft projects.

How do you store the glue?

The vinegar acts as a natural preservative, however, as this glue does not contain artificial preservatives it should be stored in the fridge to extends its shelf-life. Stored correctly it should last for several months.

⭐ We use old butter containers to store our glue.

⭐ If the glue becomes too gluggy, it can be microwaved for a few seconds to improve the consistency.

Some benefits of using homemade glue for your kids' crafts:

⭐ A safe and non-toxic option

⭐ No added chemicals or artificial preservatives

⭐ A great way to teach children about sustainability and using natural ingredients.

⭐ Environmentally friendly

⭐ More economical than store bought glue

So, next time you and your kids are planning a crafting session, consider making your own natural glue using this simple recipe. Happy crafting!
